Tambaram’s ₹2,000-crore revenue opportunity remains unrealised, report says

Tambaram has seen substantial urban growth, but a recent Times of India report says the city corporation has not translated that growth into the revenue expansion that had been anticipated.

The report says the corporation had an estimated revenue opportunity of around ₹2,000 crore. It points to developments such as new commercial buildings, additional residential floors and informal parking activity that may not be fully reflected in official revenue records.

The report links the issue to the need for stronger revenue planning, property records and enforcement as Tambaram continues to urbanise.

For residents, the issue matters because municipal revenue is an important part of funding civic services and infrastructure. The figures and interpretations in this article are attributed to the published report.
