Tambaram residents oppose private participation in proposed 24×7 water project

Residents’ welfare associations in Tambaram have opposed private participation in a proposed 24×7 drinking-water supply project, according to The New Indian Express.

A resolution passed by the Tambaram Makkal Nala Sangam and Federation of Residents’ Welfare Associations called for the project to be implemented using government funds and kept under civic-body control.

The report said the proposed project is being developed around current and future water requirements. It also said a public-private partnership model had initially been proposed for six areas: Sembakkam, Madambakkam, Chitlapakkam, Tirusulam, Perungalathur and Peerkankaranai.

The residents’ groups called for transparency and consultation on issues including tariffs, administration and possible costs to consumers. These are the positions reported by The New Indian Express; the article does not present them as a final government decision.
